Are you a visionary midwife with a passion for clinical excellence and strategic leadership? We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Midwife to join our senior maternity leadership team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
The role is essential in driving the quality improvement agenda and ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality and person‑centred maternity care.
As a Consultant Midwife, you will serve as a clinical authority, championing physiological birth pathways within our obstetric‑led unit and promoting a culture of informed choice and clinical excellence.
Main duties of the jobAs part of the role the Consultant Midwife will work closely with the Divisional Director of Midwifery/Nursing, Deputy Divisional Director of Midwifery/Nursing, the Midwifery Matrons and Managers, the Clinical Director and Deputy Clinical Director for Obstetrics and other key stakeholders to develop a maternity service that is responsive to the needs of women and its staff.
The post holder will contribute to day‑to‑day operational issues, ensuring any improvements required are embedded back into practice. The post holder will participate in the maternity on call rota.

As part of our long‑term vision to improve patient care and service delivery, our Service will relocate to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028. This move will unite specialist services in a purpose‑built, modern environment, enhancing care and team experience.
We are actively recruiting and want applicants to be aware that successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, with full consultation and support for colleagues.

Person Specification Qualifications- Current NMC Registration
- Master's Degree (or working towards a clinical health‑related subject or equivalent experience.)
- Evidence of maintaining relevant continuing professional development
- Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience
- Quality Improvement training or equivalent experience
- Evidence of substantial senior midwife experience (Band 7 or above)
- Relevant clinical experience in a variety of areas of midwifery practice including community
- Experience of leading change within a large complex organisation
- Excellent understanding of NHS policy, agenda/drivers for change in maternity and neonatal services
- Experience in participating in "Birth Options" clinics, navigating plans that sit outside of standard guidelines
