Antenatal and Newborn Screening Lead Midwife

The post holder will be an expert specialist resource in Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) screening and responsible for providing midwifery care co‑ordinating and developing services provided to pregnant women. The post holder is expected to act as a coordinator between those involved in providing and those receiving the programme. The post holder will provide effective, visible leadership to the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team and wider maternity services, working collaboratively with the multi‑disciplinary team to provide high quality, effective, evidence‑based, woman‑centred care and promote a positive working environment.
Mainduties of the job
- Provide expert advice, support and facilitation to the multi‑professional team to ensure delivery of up‑to‑date, evidence‑based information and care.
- Collaborate closely with obstetric consultants and the radiology team to develop and maintain evidence‑based guidelines, standards of care and practical advice for women and families.
- Lead the planning and implementation of individualised care pathways in partnership with women and their families, using ongoing assessment and analysis to determine appropriate clinical actions.
- Design, conduct and present regular audits to evaluate service quality and inform improvements.
- Provide monitoring data to support and influence the continued commissioning and development of the screening service.
- Ensure achievement of local and national Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to antenatal and newborn screening programmes.
- Initiate and lead service improvements, responding effectively to clinical and organisational demands.
- Drive innovation and implement change to enhance midwifery practice and improve health outcomes for women and babies.
- Promote a culture of research, audit and education, developing and delivering educational programmes to support best practice across the multidisciplinary team.
- Oversee the continuous collection and submission of data required for the annual Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) screening programme submission, ensuring compliance with national quality assurance and performance monitoring standards.

This move will unite specialist services in a purpose‑built, modern environment, enhancing care and team experience. We are actively recruiting and want applicants to be aware that successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028.
The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, with full consultation and support for colleagues.

Job responsibilitiesMain Duties and Responsibilities
- To act as a specialist resource in the field of antenatal & newborn screening and diagnosis, assisting and advising other health professionals in the care of women undergoing testing.
- Implement new national ANNB screening standards, recommendations and pathways to ensure the service meets national requirements.
- Collation and submission of nationally required data, audits and reports.
- Acts as a Link Midwife within the defined screening specialities / interest areas, e.g. haemoglobinopathies, infectious diseases, etc.
- Registered Midwife

- Commitment to professional development and evidence of CPD related to Antenatal and Newborn screening
