Location: Higford School – Shropshire, TF11 9ET

Contract: Permanent – 52 weeks
Salary: Up to £30,000 DOE
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Essential: Full valid UK driving licence and access to own vehicle

We are looking for a Newly Qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our in‑house clinical team at Higford School, an independent specialist day school supporting children and young people aged 5–19.

Responsibilities

• Deliver bespoke Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neuro‑divergent or have SEMH needs.
• Work within the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working to guide practice and clarify roles and responsibilities.
• Hold a clinical caseload with support from a designated clinical supervisor and Lead Clinician.
• Contribute to staff training and consultation as required.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to promote student-centred, empowering approaches and a strong safeguarding culture.

Qualifications and Experience

• BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy.
• Registered with the RCSLT.
• Relevant previous experience as a student SaLT or in a previously held professional role.
• Experience engaging and supporting individuals with complex communication profiles associated with autism, cognitive differences or other diagnoses.
• Awareness of neurodiversity and trauma-informed practice.
• Experience of multidisciplinary working in a range of settings.
• Experience communicating with families, relatives and carers.
• Strong relationship-building, analytical and judgement skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Good time management and organisational skills.
• Clear understanding of RCSLT Communication Standards and competence in core areas of SaLT.
• Knowledge of SaLT assessment tools and intervention strategies, and ability to formulate support plans based on needs profiles.
• Understanding of how sensory, motor and arousal levels can impact communication.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.
• Basic IT skills.
• Willingness to attend training courses and pursue further qualifications relevant to client support.
• Evidence of CPD activity.
• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle required.
