Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and repair of production tooling.
- Support Toolmakers during planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Clean tooling and support preventative maintenance processes.
- Clean and repair tooling ancillary items.
- Learn to identify tooling issues and support corrective actions.
- Support machining of components using lathes, mills, grinders, and other equipment.
- Assist with tool assembly, alignment checks, and testing.
- Support basic inspection using micrometers, gauges, and height indicators.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area following 5S principles.
- Work safely, following company Health & Safety, PPE, and operational procedures.
- Work collaboratively with Toolroom, Production, and Quality teams.
- The Toolroom Support Operative will have previous experience working in a toolroom or similar engineering environment.
- Learn and develop skills in tooling maintenance, machining, tool assembly, and fault-finding. Working closely with experienced Toolmakers, this role supports the Toolroom in ensuring tools are maintained, repaired, and prepared to meet production requirements.
- This is a hands-on role with an opportunity to develop into a fully skilled Toolroom Die Maintenance Technician.
- Engineering apprenticeship or engineering college qualification (NVQ, BTEC, etc.).
- Interest in engineering, manufacturing, or toolmaking.
- Willingness to develop technical skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organised approach.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Desirable:
Experience with hand tools or workshop tools. - Basic knowledge of machining (lathe, milling, grinding).
- Understanding of engineering drawings.
- Experience in a manufacturing or workshop environment.
- Positive "can-do" attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Good time management and ability to prioritise.
- Reliable, proactive, and safety-conscious.
- Good problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
