Job Overview
The Probation Service is looking for a Probation Services Officer to support offenders in the community. The role involves assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and reporting.
Responsibilities- Assess and manage risks of offenders before and after sentence.
- Provide case management support to a full range of people on probation following service procedures and practice directions.
- Produce clear and accurate reports to tight deadlines.
- Offer practical advice on housing and employment and give emotional support.
- Work closely with courts and agencies throughout the justice system.
- Empathetic, patient and resilient.
- Organised and able to manage a caseload.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with people who have social or personal difficulties – a degree is not required.
- Starting salary of £28,064 with annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework.
- Annual leave of 25 days, increasing to 30 days after five years.
- Coverage under the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) through the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.

Right to work in the UK is required. This role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa after 22 July 2025 unless you have held one prior to that date.
