Library Associate 3 – Library Systems & Services, LLC

Hours worked per week: 40

Job Summary

The Library Associate 3 role is the senior position within the Library Associate family and may supervise Junior Library Associates. The primary responsibilities include library programming and providing excellent customer service at the circulation desk. A portion of the role may also involve planning and facilitating library programs and coordinating volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service to patrons by greeting, providing tours, and assisting in all areas of the library.
  • Supervise junior Library Associates, including managing performance, evaluating, interviewing/hiring, training, and approving timesheets.
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement, and promote programming activities.
  • Process newly acquired library materials, including all identifying stamps, labels, RIDF, and covers.
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary and enforce those rules when appropriate.
  • Maintain circulation records and oversee the mailing of library materials to patrons in homebound or other programs.
  • Process damaged materials to ensure collections are maintained in good condition.
  • Assist with library opening and closing procedures.
  • Support the reference desk in assisting patrons with questions.
  • Coordinate volunteers, assign duties, and provide necessary training.
  • Understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, supporting client discretion of materials available at local libraries.
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three years of library experience preferred.
  • One year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with library systems and databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus.
  • High proficiency in MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends.
Physical Requirements
  • Must frequently move from place to place within the location and retrieve books and items on high shelves.
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 35 pounds; work in confined spaces; walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb.
