About the Position

Mt. San Jacinto College is hiring an Art Instructor for our Temecula campus. The position is full‑time, tenure‑track, and includes teaching Art History and Studio‑Based Fine Arts. Faculty are expected to deliver 15 hours of contact time per week, maintain office hours, serve on college governance committees, and contribute to curriculum development. The start date will be Fall 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teach lecture and studio courses in Art History and Studio‑Based Fine Arts according to approved curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, define assessment methods, and communicate course requirements to students.
  • Engage students of diverse backgrounds, fostering equitable and culturally affirming learning environments.
  • Advise students on academic and career matters and support outreach to local high schools and universities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, student records, and timely grading of assignments and assessments.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and adoption of technology and instructional materials.
  • Contribute to scholarship of teaching and learning, promoting equity, student success, and collaborative communities of practice.
  • Serve on campus and college committees, demonstrating respect for students, staff, and the teaching profession.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the above and a Master’s in Humanities; or
  • The equivalent of the above.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to teach across a range of art‑historical periods, styles, and cultures at the undergraduate level.
  • Sustained knowledge of institutional practices in modern and contemporary art worlds.
  • A record of scholarly accomplishments, including publications, conference presentations, grants, and fellowships.
  • Experience integrating technology into art instruction with demonstrated use of diverse teaching modalities.
  • Leadership experience in course development, program design, and peer evaluation.
  • Collaborative experience working with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Commitment to working effectively with students from diverse and marginalized social groups.
Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed in an indoor classroom and laboratory setting. The position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Use of classroom equipment and repetitive hand movements are part of the essential functions.
