Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS)
Electronic Health Records (EHR) specialists play a vital role in healthcare by ensuring patient information is accurate, secure, and accessible. As more organizations transition to digital records, demand for skilled professionals continues to grow.
A Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) is a credentialed professional trained to manage electronic patient data. Responsibilities include auditing records for compliance, abstracting clinical information, processing release of information requests, reviewing insurance details, and communicating with physicians and insurers. Certification is earned by passing the National Health career Association (NHA) exam.
The career outlook is strong. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary is $48,780, and employment is projected to grow 9% through 2033—faster than average—due to widespread adoption of electronic health systems and workforce turnover.
CEHRS professionals work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, surgery centers, and government facilities, with many positions offering remote options. This career suits individuals who value accuracy, confidentiality, and making a meaningful impact in healthcare.
