Job Description & How to Apply Below
Back Office Medical Assistant, OSSM (Temecula)
At OSSM, our Back Office Medical Assistants are the hands-on heart of patient care. You're the person who preps a patient before their doctor walks in, makes a nervous patient feel at ease, and helps keep our clinical days running smoothly. You'll assist our physicians in the examination and treatment of patients, working under their direction as part of the care team.
What you'll do:- Interview patients, measure vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and record the information on patient charts
- Transcribe doctor's orders, visit details, and treatment plans under direct physician supervision
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations
- Drape and position patients, set up instruments and equipment, and hand instruments and materials to the doctor as directed
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, including DME
- Coordinate with patients and verify whether authorization is needed to fill DME orders
- Fit orthopedic braces and apply bracing and casting as needed
- Administer routine diagnostic tests, or call the medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests
- Keep medical records, perform secretarial tasks, complete insurance forms, and enter data to maintain office and patient records
- Learn, apply, and implement ICD-10 changes as necessary
- Follow HIPAA guidelines, policies, and procedures to protect patient health information and confidentiality
- Completion of a Medical Assistant course, with orthopedic experience
- Knowledge of Prime Clinical EMR software (experience with it helps, and we'll train the right person)
- Ability to read and understand instructions, short correspondence, and memos, and to write simple correspondence
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, physicians, and coworkers, both one-on-one and in small groups
- Comfort with basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and working with fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Common-sense problem solving and the ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram instructions
The noise level is usually moderate. Employees may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and radiation, which is typical for an orthopedic clinic. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
