Indigenous School Mental Health Specialist

Make a difference as a Regulated School Mental Health Professional at Timiskaming District Secondary School. This role focuses on delivering culturally responsive support to Indigenous students and families.

The District School Board Ontario North East is looking for a qualified professional to enhance educational experiences for Indigenous students. You will collaborate with families and staff to provide culturally sensitive interventions and support access to community resources. The position requires travel and demands someone with strong cultural competency and knowledge of Indigenous practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive assessments for Indigenous students and families

• Develop and implement strengths-based intervention plans

• Provide individual and group counselling with trauma-informed practices

• Collaborate with community agencies for student support

• Maintain documentation and uphold professional standards

Requirements:

• Degree in mental health or related field, registered with OCSWSSW

• 3-5 years of experience with Indigenous youth and families

• Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle

• Strong knowledge of Indigenous histories and practices

• Demonstrated crisis intervention and relationship-building skills
