What You’ll Do

EMPACT‑SPC is at the forefront of providing unconditional service to children and families. The Children’s Services Department continually enhances programs to meet community needs. These School‑Based and Community‑Based TRP Family Support Counselor positions require a natural ability to form positive, supportive relationships with children in caring, family, and community‑based environments, adhering to the AZ 12 Principles. You will coordinate case‑management services, communicate community resources, perform clinical operations, facilitate Child and Family Teams, and may also mentor children, assist with living skills, provide respite for families, and perform other supportive tasks.

The role includes significant individual adolescent community work and Group Facilitation, based in our Glendale or Tempe office.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Promote and protect the health, safety, and emotional well‑being of children and families by assisting, supporting, and educating them to prevent illness and avoid unsafe activities.
  • Provide mentoring, life and social skill building to children and their families in their homes and community‑based settings.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholder groups.
  • Provide psychosocial rehabilitation and living‑skills training in children’s homes or community settings.
  • Offer respite for families and assist with living skills in home or community settings.
  • Conduct in‑home family and individual counseling.
  • Work with the child, family, and support network to identify risk areas and create specific safeguards.
  • Assist the Child‑Family Team in crisis stabilization and in transitions to and from higher levels of care.
  • Address challenging behaviors proactively and respectfully, avoiding aversive or deprivation interventions in a strengths‑based manner.
What You’ll Provide
  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • BHT level as stipulated by AZDHS/BHS (required).
  • Experience working with children who have behavioral needs and varied diagnoses.
  • Experience working with parents on parenting skills, behavior modification, and modeling parenting style.
  • Ability to engage with others easily, coordinate with DCS, and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Previous use of behavior charts and modification skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Comfort with working with and transporting youth in company vehicles.
  • Detail‑oriented and able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Must have a fingerprint clearance card or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Must have a valid AZ driver’s license with no major infractions in the past three years.
  • Must have regular access to reliable transportation.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employment.

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Maintain professional conduct consistent with ethical practice and agency policies.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive relationships with internal and external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners.
  • If driving on agency time or business, keep a valid Arizona driver license, appropriate liability insurance, and approval for liability coverage with EMPACT‑SPC’s carrier.
  • Staff members who provide direct client services must be at least 21 years old; those who provide support services must be at least 18. All employees will have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
