Big-D Heavy Industrial has an opportunity for an Estimator to join their team in Tempe, AZ.

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering
• 3‑7 years’ experience as an Estimator for an industrial general contractor
• Construction field experience preferred

• Great customer service skills
• Excellent computer skills, typing, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam
• Proficient in Timberline, Destini, OnScreen Takeoff, or similar estimating software
• Consistently produces accurate work and has excellent attention to detail
• Good time management skills
• Profit oriented
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Work well in a team environment
• Industry knowledge and awareness of current market conditions
• Read and understand construction drawings and specifications

• Defines work scope and selects subcontractors
• Develops important relationships with subcontractors and considers the relationship when making decisions
• Proficient in quantity takeoffs
• Proficient in organizing and assembling estimates in Destini/Excel
• Successful in hard bidding projects, organizes scopes of work in bid day program
• Becomes proficient in conceptual estimating in the CM Process (Program, Schematic, DD, CD, etc.)
• Understands CPM scheduling and can translate into construction budget; clearly communicates with subcontractors scheduling expectations
• Understands means and methods of construction; knows the different labor productivity rates of these items
• Knows unit costs of different construction materials and labor
• Knows overall SF cost of construction for different building types
• Begins working with superior on design‑build projects (conceptual estimating, working with architects, managing budget)
• Understands VE process and participates in working sessions
• Calls subcontractors and develops interest in projects
• Understands turnover process and conveys project information comprehensively
• Participates in forecast meetings and tracks budget vs. actual costs through construction
• Learns financial risk management with subcontractor bids
• Supports Big-D’s mission and values as well as all policies and procedures
