SummaryUMEC seeks a Certified Weld Inspector to lead welding quality control efforts on mechanical construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry codes, project specifications, and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Inspect welds and materials per AWS, ASME, API standards
- Develop and manage welding QC plans and documentation
- Review WPS, PQR, and WPQ
- Perform visual and NDT inspections
- Coordinate with third‑party inspectors and clients
- Maintain welder certifications and inspection records
- Support training and resolve quality issues
Education and Experience
- Degree in Welding Tech or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in HVAC or piping systems
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- 3–5 years of welding QC experience in construction
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1, ASME IX, API 1104
- Familiarity with NDT methods (RT, UT, MT, PT)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Additional certifications (e.g., NDT Level II, ASQ)
- Demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Drive achievement of objectives and standards, self‑starter, builds rapport.
- Highly self‑motivated, ambitious, organizational skills, executes projects on time and budget.
- Willingness to learn from feedback, adapt behavior.

Effective communication in English, cooperation and collaboration with multiple levels of customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, suppliers, and contractor organizations.
Physical DemandsRegular sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing; communication verbally and in writing one‑on‑one, small groups, or presenting to larger groups. Requires extended computer use. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work EnvironmentTypical office conditions except when visiting field locations; noise moderate to loud. May involve travel by car or airplane to field sites or business meetings.
