Mechatronics Engineer (AZ)

Full‑Time – Tempe, Arizona, US

Salary Range – US $100k - $130k (negotiable) + Equity + Employee Benefits

About Syenta

The demand for powerful computing is skyrocketing – driven by AI, data centers, and next generation electronics. Advanced packaging has emerged as the new battleground for increasing performance and efficiency, but existing manufacturing processes are expensive, slow, and struggle to scale. Syenta is changing that. Founded in Australia, we are growing globally and have established our Arizona‑based US entity. We are building a world‑class team of seasoned engineers and ambitious emerging talent to solve some of the toughest challenges in semiconductor manufacturing.

The Role

This role is a blend of hardware fabrication and software design. As one of our first engineers on the ground, you will contribute to the design and fabrication of Syenta’s LEM deposition tool and will work directly with our Australian team to bring LEM technology to the US.

Day to Day
  • Hands‑on testing and troubleshooting – commission, calibrate, and debug mechatronic systems, sensors, and motion assemblies. Create HIL/bench rigs and collaborate to develop statistical test plans to prove repeatability, reliability, and report on performance.
  • System understanding and improvement – analyse how sub‑systems (mechanical, electrical, control, vision) interact and evaluate them based on customer requirements. Identify and customize design solutions based on trade‑offs and propose improvements.
  • Data‑driven validation – collect and analyse test data to quantify repeatability, reliability, and performance drift. Combine data with best practices to optimise complex or constrained hardware components to meet performance requirements.
  • Design and build support – assist with CAD updates, prototype fabrication, wiring, and integration of hardware modules.
  • Documentation and change control – maintain clear records of design revisions, test results, and issue tracking.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration – work alongside senior engineers in mechanical, electronics, and software teams to implement upgrades and fixes.
About You

We are seeking an energetic, ambitious person who is driven by a passion for technology and is not afraid of tackling problems with unknown solutions. The ideal candidate will have foundational mechatronics experience required to deliver aggressive company goals, along with a team mindset to learn and collaborate with the Sydney engineering team.

  • Experience:

4–6 years in mechatronics, robotics, or related fields. Exposure to automation, instrumentation, or lab‑scale equipment is a plus.
  • Mindset:
You’re hands‑on, curious, and enjoy understanding why things work – and how to make them work better.
  • Skills:
    • Comfortable with mechanical assembly, sensors, actuators, and control systems.
    • Basic experience with embedded systems or data acquisition.
    • Able to read schematics and interpret CAD or mechanical drawings.
    • Practical debugging and test‑equipment skills (oscilloscopes, multimeters, motion controllers, etc.).
Bonus Points
  • Experience with precision motion systems, linear stages, or stepper/servo drives.
  • Familiarity with vision systems, metrology, or camera‑based alignment.
  • Exposure to cleanroom, semiconductor, or laboratory environments.
  • Interest in advanced manufacturing, nanofabrication, or robotics.
Why Syenta
  • Equity Opportunities – ownership stakes tied to our success.
  • Potential 401(k) and other benefits.
  • Health & Wellness – employee‑led comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage plans, supported by the company.
  • Professional Growth – responsibilities can expand significantly as the business scales.
  • Team Events – annual company event in Australia to collaborate and celebrate.
  • Work‑Life Balance – flexible leave policies and an understanding that meaningful work can coexist with a fulfilling personal life.
  • Initial Paid Time Off Package:
    • 15 days vacation
