The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Telecom Designer with leadership skills to step into the role of ICT Studio Manager at any of our kW offices (Troy NY, New York NY, Herndon VA, Atlanta GA, Milwaukee WI, or Tempe AZ). This unique position combines hands-on telecom design with management responsibilities, offering the perfect blend of technical expertise and leadership. You’ll oversee the daily operations of the studio while actively contributing to the design of mission-critical telecommunications systems, including cutting-edge, AI-optimized data centers.

Key Focus

This role is ideal for a seasoned Telecom Designer looking to expand into management while maintaining a hands-on approach to design. If you’re passionate about leading teams, mentoring, managing complex projects, and producing high-quality designs, this position offers the opportunity to strike the perfect balance between leadership and technical work.

Your Impact:

  • Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor a team of telecom designers and Revit specialists. Champion their professional development, ensuring continuous skills growth and fostering innovation.

  • Telecom Design & Technical Expertise: Stay engaged in hands-on ICT and telecommunications design, developing detailed pathways, cabling infrastructure, and integrating telecom systems with other building systems. You’ll also write and edit Division 27 specifications and manage construction administration tasks.

  • Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the ICT Studio. Balance design workloads, resources, and schedules to ensure efficient performance and timely project delivery.

  • Project Oversight: Ensure all projects progress smoothly, meeting deadlines and budget constraints without compromising quality or technical standards. Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to align designs with project goals.

  • Design Quality Control: Conduct design reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with client and project requirements, including relevant codes and industry best practices.

  • Client & Stakeholder Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on design-related matters. Represent the ICT discipline in meetings and presentations, maintaining clear and effective communication with all stakeholders.

  • Growth & Innovation: Drive the strategic growth of the ICT design team. Identify areas for process improvement and implement innovations that increase both efficiency and design quality. Stay current with industry trends, especially AI-related advancements.

Who You Are: You are a Telecom Designer with a proven track record of leadership, ready to step into a management role while continuing to contribute directly to design. You thrive in a fast-paced, technical environment where you can balance design work with operational and managerial duties.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology) or equivalent

  • 7-10 years of experience in ICT or telecommunications infrastructure design, with a focus on mission-critical or data center environments

  • BCSI RCDD certification (Registered Communications Distribution Designer)

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team management and mentorship in a technical design environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present to and collaborate with clients, project stakeholders, and internal teams
