Empact is part of a Premier Crisis system being modeled throughout the country. This is a great opportunity for a Crisis Specialist to join our dynamic department in Tempe or Glendale, AZ and provide crisis services. Responsibilities include responding to crisis calls, completing crisis interventions for ongoing clients, case management and coordination of care, and interfacing with first responders. Services will be provided according to training, experience, and certification as assigned.
This position requires the ability to work in a high‑paced crisis setting. Wage differential available.
Work Schedule:
Four 10‑hour work days per week (DAY, WEEKEND, and EVENING shifts available).
- Due to the nature of crisis work, breaks/mealtimes are generally taken while on shift, in between calls. Extended breaks for personal reasons must be discussed with the department supervisor or On‑Call Coordinator.
- Provide direct in‑home, in‑office, in‑school and community‑based crisis services, including crisis intervention, de‑escalation, transportation, stabilization, client support, parenting training, behavior management training, and referrals.
- Ensure quality service delivery and documentation; maintain all client records in accordance with agency policies.
- Coordinate communication with other departments to ensure continuity of care and develop relationships with state, community behavioral health, and contracting organizations.
- Comply with the agency’s standard of care; assist with Quality Management and Utilization Review as needed.
- Perform job duties safely and support team members professionally.
- Oversee department vehicle operations, report incidents, and perform basic safety checks as required.
- Work in potentially volatile situations and respond professionally regardless of circumstances.
- The position receives a differential in pay due to high risk.
- Be flexible with shift location and change location if requested at the beginning of the shift.
- Use downtime for special projects benefiting the department.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings, even if outside regular shift hours.
- Work beyond shift hours with no advance warning if required; overtime approved by Department Manager or Director of Programs.
- Use personal vehicle if agency van is unavailable (transportation of clients not required).
- Provide guidance to new staff or interns on intervention, documentation, and processes.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or a directly related field plus 1 year of behavioral health experience OR qualifications to meet BHT level requirements.
- Preferred experience in crisis services, outpatient services, community outreach, sub‑acute or urgent psychiatric settings.
- Flexibility to extend shifts for crisis work and paperwork.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and collaborate in a team environment.
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred; bilingual differential pay.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license with no major infractions for the past 39 months.
- Fingerprint clearance card required or eligibility to obtain one.
- At least 21 years of age at time of employment.
- Remain calm, work independently, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively to all persons.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethical practice consistent with agency policies.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and positive relationships with internal and external partners.
- When driving on agency time, maintain valid license, liability insurance approval, and a clean state driving record for 3 years.
- Direct client staff must be at least 21; support staff must be at least 18; all employees require a high school diploma or equivalent.
