1st Shift Lab Assistant - Accessioner

This position is Full Time:
Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm with a weekend rotation. Weekend rotation is once every 6 weeks.

The Lab Assistant is responsible for a variety of duties throughout the lab. Responsibilities include receiving and accessioning surgical specimens for testing, assisting physicians and clients, cleaning and maintaining assigned areas, and performing other duties as needed. The Lab Assistant may be involved in minimal handling of hazardous waste.

Employees must follow all Company policies and procedures, including regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA, and OSHA, and adhere to safety standards in all functions.

• Receive and accession surgical and cytology specimens.
• File blocks and slides as needed.
• Perform daily QC documentation.
• Maintain equipment and supplies in a clean condition, including transferring used reagents from stainers and tissue processors to 90‑day accumulation containers (55‑gal drums).
• Prep samples for send‑out to reference labs.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

• In the absence of the Histology Lab Manager, responsible for department oversight and supervision.
• Assist in new employee orientation and training.
• Assist with updating and maintaining Accessioning Procedures.
• Troubleshooting/problem solving.
• Maintain communication with the Histology Lab Manager.

• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs routinely to move objects.
• May be exposed to blood products, knife cuts, hazardous waste, and chemical fumes. Appropriate precautionary measures such as eye protection, mask, lab coat, and gloves must be followed. Hazardous Waste training is required.

High School Diploma or GED

• Level I: < 3 years of relevant work experience
• Level II: 4–7 years of relevant work experience
• Level III: 8+ years of relevant work experience
• (Experience to be determined at the discretion of the Histology Manager or Accessioning Manager)
