Position: Technical Business Analyst (AML Compliance)
Position

Technical Business Analyst (AML Compliance)

Location

Phoenix, AZ (REMOTE)

Summary
  • The Technical Business Analyst - BSA/AML Compliance Platform, is the bridge between the policy documents that govern the program and the technology that delivers it
  • The Technical Business Analyst reads and interprets Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, then works with business and technology teams to confirm that what the platform delivers matches what the policies require
  • The role is documentation-heavy and audit-facing
  • The analyst traces each policy requirement to a platform deliverable, keeps the evidence organized, and explains technical functionality in plain language to compliance, operations, and business stakeholders
  • Strong data skills are essential: the Technical Business Analyst writes SQL to validate data, test logic, and answer questions directly rather than waiting on a developer
  • The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and data analysis, with the ability to transform complex data into actionable business insights
  • This position is Remote
Responsibilities
Policy and Requirements Analysis
  • Read and interpret BSA/AML policies, standards, procedures, and regulatory guidance, and translate them into clear, testable platform requirements
  • Track changes to policies and regulations and assess their impact on platform functionality, data, and reporting
  • Maintain a current inventory of requirements, owners, and the controls that support them
Business and Technology Partnership
  • Meet with business and compliance stakeholders to explain what the platform delivers, what it does not, and where gaps exist
  • Translate technical concepts, system behavior, and data flows into plain language for non-technical audiences and translate business needs back into technical terms for delivery teams
  • Take part in planning, release, and change-management discussions, and document decisions and open items
Documentation, Audit, and Traceability
  • Build and maintain a traceability matrix that ties each policy requirement to a specific platform deliverable, configuration, report, or control
  • Prepare and maintain business requirements, functional specifications, process flows, data dictionaries, and test evidence
  • Support internal audit, regulatory examinations, and independent reviews by gathering, organizing, and presenting evidence, and by responding to findings
  • Identify gaps between policy and delivery, document them, and track remediation to closure
Data Analysis and SQL
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to validate data quality, reconcile source systems, test monitoring and reporting logic, and answer ad hoc questions
  • Profile data to find completeness, accuracy, and lineage issues, and recommend fixes
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by designing test cases, running queries against expected results, and documenting outcomes
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Compliance Analyst, or Systems Analyst in Financial Services
  • Working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, sanctions screening, and recordkeeping
  • Proficiency in SQL: able to write joins, aggregations, subqueries, and window functions, and to build queries from scratch against relational databases
  • Demonstrated ability to read dense policy and regulatory documents and turn them into clear requirements
  • Experience with building requirements documents, traceability matrices, and audit evidence
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences and to hold business meetings with…
