Job SummaryThis Corporate Counsel position reports directly to the Assistant General Counsel (and indirectly to the General Counsel) and primarily assists the Legal Department in advancing its objectives. Responsibilities include drafting claims, providing contract analysis and negotiation within AIS' risk management parameters, and managing construction and employment disputes. While a portion of this role focuses on construction contract analysis and negotiation, it also includes dispute resolution, litigation support, and legal analysis across multiple legal disciplines, including construction, real estate, employment, and mergers and acquisitions.
This role requires excellent legal writing skills, a strong work ethic, teamwork, reliability, flexibility, and impeccable professional conduct.
- Work with the Assistant General Counsel and General Counsel to manage construction and employment disputes.
- Assist with accident investigations, witness interviews, legal research, and draft briefs and claims as needed when disputes arise.
- Analyze and review large project files and develop plans to recover monies owed to various AIS, and its Operating Companies.
- Perform various tasks related to ongoing projects on an as-needed basis.
- Learn and apply complex contract review processes and perform detailed legal analysis.
- Work quickly, efficiently, and accurately to review federal, public, and private construction contracts; make red lines as needed; and draft communications to AIS, and its Operating Companies explaining proposed revisions.
- Manage relationships with more than thirty (30) AIS, and its Operating Companies across the United States by providing timely contract analysis and legal advice while balancing AIS risk tolerances and ensuring the overall contract process remains efficient.
- Participate in and lead meetings with opposing parties to explain proposed changes and negotiate mutually agreeable contract terms.
- Attorney with a minimum of 2-4 years of experience.
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state (or able to become licensed within the next 12 months) and eligible to register as in-house counsel in the State of Arizona.
