Maintenance Manager, Operations Manager
Facilities Services Supervisor
Location: Tempe campus, Arizona State University.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (additional on‑call/stand‑by may be required).
Position Overview: This supervisory role leads highly skilled maintenance and operations staff in critical, complex research buildings, including the Walton Center for Planetary Health and ISTB
2. The supervisor will plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance, preventive and corrective activities, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Supervise, hire, train, develop, and evaluate multi‑craft staff.
- Plan, monitor, and approve daily work orders using the CMMS system.
- Oversee maintenance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; coordinate repairs and installations.
- Manage preventive maintenance programs, energy‑management initiatives, and equipment replacement.
- Act as liaison with faculty, students, and staff, addressing complex maintenance needs and resolving issues.
- Lead performance improvement plans and track progress.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and institutional policies.
- Prepare cost estimates, maintain supplies, and coordinate contractor work.
- Promote safety and infection‑control protocols, including PPE usage and hazard identification.
- Assist with budgeting, business planning, and sustainability goals.
- Provide hands‑on support to the team in field repairs and emergencies.
- Prioritize workloads for maintenance and emergency jobs.
- Improvisely respond to hourly on‑call/stand‑by duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license (Class D or higher) and required endorsements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work a rotating on‑call schedule.
- Four (4) years of construction or maintenance experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience, or equivalent.
- Certification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, energy‑management systems, or plumbing.
- Experience with complex research facilities, cleanroom operations, specialty exhaust systems, and data‑center maintenance.
- Proficiency with work‑order and CMMS systems.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Excellent customer‑service orientation.
- Experience in supervisory practices and LEAN methodology.
- Fieldwork in laboratories and mechanical areas; exposure to dust, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.
- Physical requirements:
lifting up to 25 pounds, climbing ladders, and operating heavy equipment. - Potential exposure to hazardous materials requiring PPE and medical clearance.
- Work may involve driving university vehicles and operating costly equipment.
- Competitive salary ($60,000 – $63,000 / yr) with annual review.
