We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Tooling Machinist to join our manufacturing team. This position plays a critical role in producing precision aerospace components, tooling, and fixtures while supporting operational excellence through quality, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The Tooling Machinist safely and effectively sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to produce parts and tools to exacting measurements, demonstrating cross-functional competencies in conventional machining, including lathes, mills, and grinders; competency in CNC machine tools as well is desirable. The Tooling Machinist will demonstrate strong blueprint and GD&T comprehension, and proficient use of inspection layout and tools to produce, troubleshoot, and control the manufacturing process.

Completes assigned tasks with only a minimal need for assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to company quality and safety standards at all times.
  • Safely operate machining equipment and tools.
  • Follow company 5S guidelines and maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Set up and run jobs with minimal assistance.
  • Follow company and department process guidelines and work instructions.
  • Machining of all types of common aerospace materials with only minimal assistance.
  • Perform operations per work instructions, process sheets, and documented specifications.
  • Assist in troubleshooting non-conformances with approved tooling, program and/or control adjustments.
  • Perform in-process inspection of product characteristics utilizing a variety of precision inspection tools.
  • Understand and apply machine capabilities to make accurate process decisions.
  • Deburr, clean, and package parts to avoid handling damage as directed.
  • Perform daily and weekly machine maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in the tooling and fixture design for production departments.
  • Log real-time setup and run data (start time, stop time, conforming and non-conforming quantities) into the job tracking system daily.
  • Assist in training and mentoring of lower-level employees.
  • Routine interaction with team members, Leads, Supervisors, Engineering, and Quality departments

  • Cost:
    Tool repair costs at or below departmental goals.
  • Delivery:
    Total tooling manufacture hours relative to hours available.
Qualifications

Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in precision machining.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the manufacture of production tooling and fixtures.
  • Cross-functional competencies in conventional machine tools.
  • Cross-functional competencies in CNC machine tools are desirable.
  • Practical experience with tool geometry and tool wear offsets.
  • Strong inspection and measurement skills required, including optical comparators, microscopes, and manual inspection tools.
  • Practical application of machine shop mathematics.
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods.
  • Exposure to basic CAD/CAM, desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of machining various materials.

Education, Licenses and

Certifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Trade school, vocational education, or apprenticeship may be substituted per company requirements
