OB / GYN Nurse Practitioner, CNP

Advanced Practice nurse who works autonomously and in conjunction with physicians in a private practice setting to provide coordinated, comprehensive and quality healthcare within the protocols of obstetrics and gynecology. Healthcare is provided for acute and chronic disorders and is based on ACOG guidelines and evidence based practice and is revised frequently. Care may include complete physical exams, determination of disorders, treatment and education, prescriptions and referrals consistent with the Arizona state board of nursing scope of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB Education
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure by State Board of Nursing as an RN
  • Graduate from an Advanced Practice nursing program (clinical specialist, Master Degree Program or DNP) which is accredited and approved
  • Registration by Arizona Board of Nursing as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
  • National certification with a specialty board
  • Current DEA certification
Experience
  • 1-2 years clinical experience in OB / GYN preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Obtain pertinent medical history and conduct relevant physical examinations and records in EHR.
  • Conducts examination of head, eye, ear, nose and throat; heart and lung examinations when necessary. Emphasis on the thyroid, breasts, abdomen and pelvis.
  • Performs breast examinations and promotes breast awareness
  • Performs PAP smears, evaluates the vulva, vagina, cervix and uterus for pathology.
  • Evaluates the uterine corpus and adnexae and performs and evaluates rectal exams if warranted.
  • Assess patient complaints, recognizes normal and abnormal medical findings.
  • Remains familiar and up to date with family cancer screening and counseling.
  • Perform procedures including but not limited to: biopsy of endometrial or vulvar tissue, and insertion or removal of IUDs.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures and synthesizes data to determine tentative diagnosis and therapeutic plan, exercising independent judgment.
  • Recognizes associated GYN and non-GYN diseases, common OB complaints and consults with physician when appropriate.
  • Monitor and treat patients during pregnancy including prenatal advising up to delivery and postnatal care.
  • Assess patients for possible STI’s and initiates appropriate lab studies. May prepare wet slides, evaluating such microscopically for various agents causing vaginitis and initiates appropriate treatment.
  • Prescribe and manage medication therapy for patients.
  • Educates patients on contraceptive methods.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to lab, imaging or social agencies.
  • Provides services to patients and assists the physicians with their patients in all locations as needed. Triage patients within the practice and over the phone, makes decisions and judgments for all patients as needed.
  • Supports and motivates patient care. Assures relevant treatment and therapeutic plans and utilizes other health and medical resources to coordinate these plans.
  • Provides continued follow up and coordinated care for patients.
  • Works with all providers to maintain patient flow during times of need in order to accommodate our patients and eliminate the need for reschedules.
  • Continue to educate MA’s regarding quality patient care according to the practice guidelines set by SWCWC.
  • Assumes leadership responsibilities within SWCWC.
  • Promotes cooperation amongst the staff of SWCWC.
