As a Journeyman Electrician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and wiring located below ground, which includes work on direct‑buried cables, conduits, and underground power lines for telecommunications, residential, and commercial projects.

A specialized type is the underground mine electrician, who works with high‑voltage equipment and electrical systems in mining operations, a role that also involves troubleshooting mechanical issues.

$28-$40 per hour

• Installation: Dig trenches, lay conduits, and install direct‑buried electrical cables, then backfill and mark the area with caution tape.
• Maintenance and repair: Inspect and repair existing underground electrical systems in tunnels, manholes, and vaults.
• System operation: Service and troubleshoot electrical systems for various infrastructure, including the equipment used in mining operations like motors, generators, and communication systems.
• Safety compliance: Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and standards, which can include specific burial depths and proper marking for other contractors.

• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to work in confined and physically demanding spaces.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations.
• Often requires a formal apprenticeship and/or specific certifications, such as Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for mining electricians.
• 2 + years in Wastewater Plant.
• Underground Experience.
• Skills Exam will be conducted.
