Job Profile

Skilled Crafts and Trade Assistant 2 Non‑Exempt – Full time – $21.62 per hour.

Location:

ASU Tempe campus (may travel to other campuses). The position requires a valid Arizona driver’s license, background check, fingerprinting, and a post‑employment physical exam.

Job Description

Serves as a certified trades worker specializing in lock installation, repair, and service of related security hardware.

Essential Duties
  • Repair, install, and service locks and related hardware (e.g., pinning cylinders and impressioning keys).
  • Repair/install combination locks and desk/file cabinet locks.
  • Use hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, hand files, picks) and power tools (drills, saws, grinders).
  • Install and repair panic hardware.
  • Cut new/duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
  • Open locks with no existing keys or codes.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install commercial, industrial, and residential physical security door locking hardware.
  • Maintain master keying systems for standard and small‑format locks.
  • Complete work order requests through the electronic work order management system and detail notes for completion (labor, material, and work notes).
  • Travel to other campus locations for coverage as needed.
  • Communicate clearly to perform essential functions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience preparing labor and material estimates.
  • Knowledge of keying, repairing, installing, and servicing locks and related hardware.
  • Familiarity with electronic access systems.
  • Competency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, database systems).
  • Understanding of floor plans and building schematics.
Ability To
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
Working Environment
  • Work in a range of temperatures and at varying heights.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and climb ladders to adjust door mechanisms.
  • Stand or kneel for extended periods.
  • Drive university vehicles/carts as required.
  • Follow safety procedures when handling hazardous materials and wear appropriate PPE.
Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
