Join a high-performing outpatient coding team supporting a large, complex healthcare system. These roles are ideal for experienced professional fee coders who value accuracy, compliance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Base pay range

$22.47/hr - $32.00/hr

Position Summary

The Outpatient Coder is responsible for accurate and compliant coding of outpatient encounters across all specialties. This role supports revenue integrity, data quality, and clinical documentation accuracy through detailed review and collaboration with providers and billing teams.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CT

Core Duties
  • Review outpatient encounters across all specialties.
  • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT (including modifiers), and HCPCS codes.
  • Perform 100 percent data validation on electronically charted encounters.
  • Query providers for documentation clarification or coding accuracy.
  • Maintain coder accuracy of at least 95 percent for CPT/HCPCS, E/M, and ICD-10-CM.
  • Apply CMS, AMA CPT, NCCI, and VA coding standards.
  • Participate in audits, required reports, training summaries, and audit follow-up.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, auditors, and billing staff to ensure clean claims and compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Active certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, or CPC.
  • U.S. Citizenship and English proficiency.
  • Minimum of three years of continuous outpatient or professional fee coding experience in a large, complex healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in:
    • ICD-10-CM
    • CPT and HCPCS
    • E/M leveling, including use of VISN-mandated VIRR E/M calculator
    • CMS, AMA CPT guidance, NCCI edits, and VA coding standards
