Summary

The Temple - Texas VA Medical Center is looking for a highly qualified Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. The technologist is required to perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations - including magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy during the day or evening shift.

Qualifications
  • United States Citizenship or lawful permanent resident.
  • Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT). Advanced ARRT certification required for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Completion of a full‑time training program of at least 24 months in a post‑high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree accredited by JRCERT.
  • Advanced certification indicates demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and passed the designated examination.
  • At least one year of experience at GS‑08 level directly related to the position, demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level.
  • Knowledge of superconducting magnets physics and relation to human anatomy, magnetic environment safety factors, cross‑sectional anatomy, radio‑frequency surface coils, contrast media power injectors and PACS.
  • English language proficiency (spoken and written) as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
  • Physical requirements per VA Directive 5019.
Duties
  • Acquire diagnostic quality MRI and MRA examinations based on established protocols and modify pulse sequences and patient positioning to obtain the highest quality exam possible.
  • Review each patient’s MRI safety checklist, perform final safety screening, and screen the patient for ferromagnetic materials with a hand‑held metal detector before the patient enters the scan room.
  • Prepare gadolinium‑based contrast media and administer it intravenously to patients within the MRI suite prior to performing their scan according to approved standard protocols under a radiologist’s directive.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of a contrast reaction and know what steps to take in the event of a contrast reaction.
  • Enter a detailed Imaging Procedure Note in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
  • Maintain records of patients treated, examinations performed, scans taken, and provide documentation and reporting to the radiologist or referring physician.
  • Rearrange the exam schedule under guidance of the MRI section supervisor to ensure that critical patients are scanned or critical exams are performed in the most expeditious manner.
  • Responsible for correctly initiating transfer of obtained MRI images to the organization’s Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS) and confirming successful transfer of these images following completion of each acquired MRI examination.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the supervisor or radiologist, including basic quality management type duties and support of the program.
Pay Range

Base pay range: $74,564.00 / yr – $96,932.00 / yr
