Job Overview

Baylor Scott & White Health Medical Center is seeking a Full Time Registered Nurse to join our Ortho Trauma Progressive Care Unit (5 South). Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital is a 636‑bed specialty care teaching hospital and the only Level 1 Trauma Center between Dallas and Austin.

Schedule

Full Time - 36 hours per week

Unit Summary

This is a 35‑bed monitored nursing unit that provides the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients ranging from adults to geriatrics. The conditions within the unit’s scope of service include:

  • Post ICU trauma patients (serious traumatic injury to 2 or more body systems)
  • Complex plastic reconstructive surgeries (including reconstructive flaps and graft sites, post‑cancer reconstruction, and trauma‑related reconstruction)
  • Complex ENT patients including free muscle flaps and neck dissections
  • Complex ENT reconstructive tracheostomies and laryngectomies
  • Traumatic complex fractures and musculoskeletal wounds
  • Elective joint replacements – Rapid Recovery Program
  • Sports injuries
  • Spinal deformities
  • Complicated pelvic, hip, and compression fractures
  • Skeletal malformations and abnormalities
  • Amputations and prosthesis
  • Neurosurgery, vascular surgery, general surgery
  • Medical/surgical patients including those requiring telemetry

Requirements

of the Ideal Candidate
  • Graduate of RN School of Nursing (ADN required)
  • Active RN license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar setting
Qualifications
  • Education – Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Major – Nursing
  • Experience – 2 years of experience in trauma or orthopedic nursing
  • Certification – Registered Nurse (RN); BLS (within 30 days of hire)
