Certified Medication Aide – 2 pm – 10 pm Shift

Support the community by ensuring residents receive accurate medications as ordered by a physician or physician extender, following nursing standards, medication aide practices, state and federal requirements, and community guidelines.
Essential Functions- Obtain a report from the licensed nurse/CMA, record medication administration information, and implement accurate changes to medication orders.
- Administer medications to residents accurately and timely, ensuring correct resident, medication, dose, route, and time.
- Observe residents for the effectiveness of drug therapy and adverse effects, reporting immediately to a licensed nurse.
- Document medication administration, monitoring, and any adverse effects or changes in resident condition.
- Notify the licensed nurse of any changes in condition, medication errors, unavailable medication, or other observations.
- Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
- Follow comprehensive care plans for medication administration based on each resident’s needs.
- Participate in community education programs.
- Respond promptly to residents’ call for assistance.
- Verify accuracy of narcotic counts; inspect emergency kits and exchange keys.
- Obtain required in‑service hours.
- Follow infection control procedures.
- Store medications accurately, monitor expiration dates, and follow destruction procedures.
- Follow the 5 Rights of medication administration.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of medication administration.
- Follow the process for reordering medication, reporting unavailability, and discontinuation or expiry.
- Immediately report medication errors in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
- Observe community processes for narcotic sign‑out and administration, including shift narcotic counts and documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Current and valid Texas Certified Medication Aide certificate.
- High school diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight ~5 lb, maximum ~30 lb). Lifting (minimum 5 lb, maximum ~100 lb).
- Repetitive finger movements, hearing, and talking on the phone and in person.
- Ability to cope with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noise, interruptions, and to work cooperatively with the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
