We are seeking skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Fiber Technicians (Run Ops) to support our data center operations in Los Lunas, NM. The technician will be responsible for installation, cabling, fiber termination, splicing, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems within a mission‑critical data center environment. This role requires strong technical knowledge, hands‑on experience with fiber systems, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment ensuring uptime and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Mount and install racks, patch panels, grounding, fiber optics, and related hardware.
- Perform continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables.
- Install and terminate LC, SC, ST, FC, MPO/MTP connectors (multi‑mode & single‑mode fiber).
- Terminate jumper cords (simplex & duplex), indoor tight‑buffered fiber, and outside‑plant fiber.
- Install fan‑out kits including buffer tubes.
- Calculate and verify end‑to‑end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
- Perform OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO testing on fiber systems.
- Troubleshoot opens, shorts, transposed pairs, and other fiber‑related issues.
- Identify and correct end‑to‑end network problems using OTDR and related tools.
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing on all fiber cable types.
- Execute building entrance splices, maintenance space splices, and direct‑buried splices.
- Complete timesheets, work orders, material transfers, change orders, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Provide on‑call/after‑hours support as scheduled.
- Travel to multiple sites as required for operations.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience with fiber termination, splicing, and testing preferred.
- Previous data center installation experience strongly preferred.
- Industry certifications such as Corning, FOA, or BICSI are highly desirable.
- Proficiency with fiber connector terminations (Unicam, anaerobic, heat‑cure).
- Strong knowledge of OTDR, PMLS, and related fiber testing equipment.
- Experience with both multimode and single‑mode fiber systems.
- Ability to use hand tools and trade tools such as crimp tools, punch tools, pliers, cable strippers, and tone sets.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and move equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in a professional environment.
- Must be self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently as well as in a team setting.
