Reporting to:
The Direct Payments Recipient (the employer) who holds all employer’s responsibilities associated with the role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil employer obligations.
Introduction: A Direct Payments recipient in Pembrokeshire wants to employ an experienced female Personal Care Assistant to support a lady with MS. Support is needed on Friday/Sunday. “Exemption is claimed under the Equalities Act 2010”. The post is 16 hours per week, to support the client to maintain daily living activities. Possibility of overtime.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable clients to manage their support and independently meet their care needs.
The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client.
Responsibilities- Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person
- Build a good rapport with the person and communicate effectively
- Support the person to carry out household tasks
- Carry out all aspects of personal care such as showering and dressing
- Monitor skin integrity and apply cream as necessary
- Use mobility aids such as wheelchairs and hoists
- Support the person with outings to nearby shops
- Support the employer to develop independent living skills
- Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction
- Ensure the employer’s safety at all times during working hours
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours
- Be mindful of safeguarding issues, feedback on any concerns to relevant authority
- Be responsible for contacting GP, social worker or local authority if the employer needs medical assistance
- Responsible and honest
- Proactive and self‑motivated
- Has good local knowledge
- Good time‑keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
- Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
- A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required
- Business use on vehicle insurance is required to use the vehicle within work hours
- 5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata)
- Sick pay at SSP rate
- Training provided if required
