Senior Design & Development Engineer

Overview

Senior Design & Development Engineer – A hands-on role focused on taking ideas from concept and prototype through to fully developed, manufacturable products in a cutting-edge technology environment. This role may require DV Security Clearance for certain client projects. Clearance typically requires a long-term UK residency history (10+ years) and the ability to pass government security vetting. You can join the team and work on other commercial projects while your clearance application is progressing.

• A 2.1 or 1st class degree in Engineering, Physics, Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Outstanding academic credentials throughout education. This team is comprised of exceptionally bright engineers and scientists; candidates should have achieved excellent academic results, including at least AAA at A Level (or international equivalent), alongside a degree from a leading international university
• Demonstrable experience in a senior design, product development or R&D engineering role
• Proven experience taking products from concept through prototype and into production
• Strong CAD design experience
• Experience with PCB electronics and electronic system design
• Extensive additive manufacturing experience including rapid prototyping techniques
• Understanding of CAD and PDM methodologies
• Strong practical engineering ability with excellent workshop and hands-on development skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome complex technical challenges
• Ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies and engineering disciplines
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to work onsite five days per week
• Ability to travel at short notice when required
• A full UK driving licence is ideal

• Personal engineering projects demonstrating a passion for building and creating
• Experience designing and building machines, robotics, automation systems or other complex electromechanical products
• Experience working within fast-paced R&D environments
• Exposure to product industrialisation and manufacturing processes

• Design, develop and refine innovative products from early-stage concepts through to production-ready designs
• Create detailed CAD models and engineering designs
• Design, build and test physical prototypes
• Develop PCB-based electronic systems and integrate them into wider products
• Rapidly iterate designs based on testing and experimental results
• Identify and solve complex engineering challenges across multiple disciplines
• Improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability and efficiency
• Work closely with engineers and technical specialists across multiple disciplines
• Support product development throughout the full engineering lifecycle
• Contribute directly within workshop and R&D environments through hands-on engineering activities
