We have an opening for an Instructor – Nursing (12‑month) at our Chattanooga State and Chattanooga State Kimball campuses.

Position Summary

This full‑time, 12‑month faculty position primarily involves teaching within the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the instructor delivers quality instruction and supervision of student learning in both classroom and clinical settings while maintaining a positive learning environment. The role also serves as a program liaison, supporting accreditation and regulatory assignments.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare instructional materials: lectures, presentations, lab sessions, clinical and cooperative arrangements.
  • Use various learning assessments to evaluate student mastery of course and program outcomes.
  • Provide timely feedback to students to facilitate academic success.
  • Submit required documentation: course syllabi, student attendance, final course grades, and other information as requested.
  • Disseminate information about services available to students across the college.
  • Maintain professional development and growth to meet certification requirements.
  • Participate in committees and task forces; act as an academic advisor, faculty advisor to a student club, mentor other faculty, and support the Simulation Nursing Center.
  • Perform other job‑related duties and projects as assigned to advance the mission, core values, and goals of the college.
Holistic Student Support
  • Be familiar with support services beyond the classroom (Admissions & Records, Enrollment Service Center, Career Services, Student Conduct, etc.).
  • Ensure services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity‑minded practices.
  • Embrace and promote the college’s goals related to organizational culture and belongingness.
  • Support the Nursing and Allied Health Division’s equity‑minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
  • Develop clinical practice objectives using textbooks, agency manuals, course syllabi, and accreditation criteria.
  • Select and evaluate clinical facilities to provide optimal learning environments.
  • Identify clinical practice experiences and client assignments at affiliated agencies.
  • Provide one‑to‑one supervision of student clinical performance to evaluate mastery and ensure client safety.
  • Plan and conduct pre‑ and post‑clinical conferences to facilitate learning.
  • Grade nursing care plans and other written assignments according to criteria and guides.
  • Maintain records for clinical students to comply with agency requirements and protect all parties.
  • Document student clinical performance to track progress toward required skills.
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence using evidence‑based instructional practices.

  • Use timely formative and summative assessment measures.
  • Utilize emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods.
  • Engage students in the learning environment.
  • Align curriculum with Student Learning Outcomes and course progression.
  • Proficient use of personal computers and general office software.
  • Maintain commitment to the community college system.
  • Stay current and continuously improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline.
  • Establish effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and healthcare representatives.
  • Communicate interpersonally, verbally, and in writing.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Foster an excellent student experience with a culturally diverse workforce.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution, or a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with completion of M.S.N within three years of employment.
  • Current unrestricted registered nursing license to practice in Tennessee.
  • At least two (2) calendar years of full‑time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Community college teaching experience.
