Senior Regional Automation Engineer
Amazon is recruiting for a Senior Regional Automation Engineer. The role focuses on high‑level support for control systems within a regional cluster of Amazon sites.
About the RoleAs a Senior Regional Automation Engineer, you will engage in direct field work for launch and existing facilities, including commissioning, on‑call support, continuous improvement, change management, project management, training, security, infrastructure, and systems administration. You will use data analytics, structured problem solving, and system performance tools to monitor reliability and operational efficiency, develop standard operating procedures, and implement best practices.
Key Job Responsibilities- Understand and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks (Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, Profibus, Profinet, ASi), motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise on troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for engineering issues, supporting a region of onsite automation engineers.
- Program and source code for PLC or PC controllers and SCADA/OEE platforms.
- Develop automation‑system solutions and optimize performance metrics.
- Lead project management for large‑scale initiatives, coordinating site‑based Automation Engineers.
- Create, optimize, and monitor KPIs for machine efficiency, availability, and quality, generating improvement reports.
- Communicate with vendors and senior leadership to coordinate technical resolutions for local or network‑wide issues.
- Provide technical guidance and decision making for cross‑team collaboration projects.
- Offer 24/7 on‑call rotational support for hardware and software systems across multiple sites.
- Travel up to 80% as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent, plus 7+ years of PLC programming or automation engineering experience.
- Flexible schedule/shift availability, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in industrial controls, PLC‑controlled automation, robotics work cells, and control systems.
- Proficiency with Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, or Codesys ladder logic and structured programming.
- Strong electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment knowledge.
- Advanced degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with HMI and control network components, including maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and design.
- Proficiency in RSLogix
5000, Studio 5000, FT View, and other controls software platforms. - Six Sigma Black Belt certification or MBA.
- Leading controls in manufacturing or complex industrial environments.
