The purpose of this job is to optimise safe extraction of materials at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. The Long‑hole/Exploration Driller operates long‑hole drill rigs to drill long holes in sections, collecting cutting samples per section then packaging and labeling for the geology department. Long holes are drilled to geology department specifications for depth, direction, and angle.

- Promote awareness of SHE practices and demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHE goals in support of the department, site and company standards.
- Report all SHE incidents.
- Demonstrate leadership in SHE through personal behaviours and conversations.
- Provide clear expectations on performance in SHE through setting objectives and KPIs in SHE for all employees and contractors.
- Plan and prepare drilling site (geology plans, operations prepare the sites).
- Move equipment and materials to site.
- Drill and monitor progression.
- Interpret drill plans then drill holes and realign equipment according to drill design and ground conditions.
- Monitor ground conditions and components to maintain safe drilling operations.
- Install collar pipes according to site procedures.
- Remove drill cuttings and sludge to keep drill hole clean.
- Complete all required documentation clearly, concisely and mark misdirected holes according to site procedures.
- Pack up drill site and conduct housekeeping activities.
- Carry out operator maintenance.
- Promote and demonstrate safe behaviour, always in compliance with site standards and SHEC procedures as well as MSHA regulations.
- Report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations.
- Demonstrate leadership in SHEC through personal behaviours and conversations and take responsibility for safety of all personnel at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines.
- 5 years’ experience in mining and mine‑specific equipment at a Miner 1 level.
- Demonstrated competence in ground control and understanding of technical and operating process relevant to mine planning and scheduling.
- Able to operate a long hole drill, read geologist hole specifications, and read an angle gage, secure ground as needed.
- Sound understanding of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities.
- Able to perform job with minimum supervision.
- Competent in providing accurate samples.
- Minimum high school education or equivalent.
- 5 years of underground mining experience.
- Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
- Tennessee Class C Foreman’s Certificate or equivalent (preferred).
- Competent in reading ground and conducting stope inspection.
- Competent in tasks to include drilling, scaling, bolting, and installing water needle.
- Strong knowledge of MSHA regulations.
