The purpose of this job is to optimise safe extraction of ore and waste at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. The Development Miner is able to perform all mining tasks, including drilling, blasting, bolting, scaling, mucking, map reading, shooting grade and centre, etc.

• Plan and prepare for ground support provision.
• Inspect and assess site conditions to determine scaling requirements, misfires and starting point, and take action according to site requirements.
• Position equipment to ensure safety of other equipment and personnel.
• Monitor and manage equipment performance using appropriate indicators.
• Operate equipment safely within the work environment, road conditions and limitations.
• Clean equipment and conduct housekeeping activities.
• Manage drill operations within the development drift.
• Evaluate drilling techniques and options.
• Recognise capabilities and resulting work of the driller and its effect on production costs.
• Evaluate and select appropriate equipment for blast hole drilling that best matches production requirements.
• Contribute to the design of the drill program based on mining production rates, drill hole layout, drill bit/rod life, drill penetration rate and drill hole deviation.
• Confirm drill pattern using an acceptable survey technique.
• Investigate options for improvement of drill performance including consumable items, drilling techniques, drill patterns.

• Demonstrate competency to operate all types of drills used in Nyrstar mines.
• Proficient in drilling burn cuts, slabbing, benching, and backstopes.
• Proficient in all types of drilling, including production, development and bolting.
• Able to perform ground control.
• Demonstrate ability to “read” ground structure and correctly scale ground.

• Modules:
  Drilling, Bolting, Mechanical Scaling, Loader, and Blasting.
• 2 years’ experience in mining.
• Sign‑off on Drilling, Bolting, Mechanical Scaling, Loader, Blasting, and Manual Scaling.
• Blasting license required.
• Yearly performance review must be fully satisfactory or commendable.
• Progression readiness per current proficiencies.

• Ensures equipment operates properly.
• Provides basic maintenance, including lubrication/cooling water systems.
• Maintains communication with hoist operator.
