Position SummaryInfection Control Practitioner – You will play a vital role in protecting patients and staff by identifying, investigating, reporting, preventing, and controlling healthcare‑associated infections (HAIs) in accordance with CDC guidelines, JCAHO standards, and federal and state regulations.
How You’ll ContributeThe Infection Control Practitioner supports the Infection Control Committee and maintains the institution’s infection prevention program. Key duties include surveillance, education, policy development, and coordination of isolation precautions.
Essential Functions- Comprehensive knowledge of the complete infection control process in the healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of risk‑stratified statistics for trending HAIs.
- Develops and implements a system for identifying, investigating, reporting, and preventing HAIs among patients and personnel.
- Reviews cultures and sensitivities reports from the microbiology laboratory to determine if an infection is healthcare‑associated.
- Collaborates with staff nurses on all patient‑care units to determine occurrences of HAIs.
- Investigates infections above established thresholds or in clusters by patient‑care unit.
- Provides in‑service education related to infection prevention and control throughout the hospital.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and continual improvement of infection‑control practices.
- Reviews and revises department policies and procedures related to infection control on a concurrent basis.
- Communicates infection‑control activities to administration, the Performance Improvement Committee, the medical staff, and the Medical Executive Committee through committee minutes or the Infection Control Committee Chairperson.
