Materials Controller – TN

Black & Veatch Construction, Inc. (BVCI) is hiring a Materials Controller located in Harriman, TN (PJHARRIMA). The role is full‑time, on site, and requires a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience (a degree is preferred but not required).

Job Summary

Provide support to the project team with material transactions such as receiving, inspection, storage, maintenance, and issuance to ensure project equipment and materials are available to support the construction schedule. Responsible for the integrity and use of the Material/Inventory Management System.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the physical receipt, inspection and documentation of incoming/outgoing project materials and equipment.
  • Complete the project specific Materials Management Procedure.
  • Plan, organize, implement and maintain project specific Site Receiving Rules, Laydown Areas and Warehouse Space.
  • Manage and allocate warehouse/laydown areas, ensuring proper housekeeping and inventory counts.
  • Ensure all materials are received, inspected, stored, maintained and issued in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Train employees, staff and/or craft labor on proper receiving, storage and maintenance procedures.
  • Coordinate with engineering and procurement personnel to ensure timely delivery of project materials and equipment.
  • Manage the OS&D process with supply vendors and coordinate with procurement as needed.
  • Maintain the Material/Inventory Management System used by the project.
  • Track preventive maintenance and ensure it is completed timely to support warranty protection where applicable.
  • Monitor the collection of surplus, scrap and salvageable materials and track materials returned to vendor.
  • Generate metric reporting on inventory, issues, location, OS&D, preventive maintenance, equipment usage, receiving and spare parts.
  • Record and track material issues from storage area to construction.
  • Establish goals and measure performance of the project materials organization.
  • Ensure field compliance with appropriate corporate and field specific procedures that maintain sound construction and business practices.
  • Identify and assess improvement opportunities that add value.
  • May supervise the work of others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA or BS degree in Supply Chain, Business, Technical / Engineering, Construction Management or related field (preferred).
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Proficient attention to detail, communication (written and oral), computer skills (database and MS Office), basic contract comprehension, strong data entry, mathematics, organizing data, problem solving, basic project process management, basic schedule and planning understanding.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience without a degree. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected), which may include a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Typical construction site or office environment. Able to work in a fast‑paced environment, extended work weeks at the project’s discretion, and relocation may be required.
