The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) provides direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. The CNA assists with personal hygiene, daily living activities, and basic nursing care to ensure patient safety, comfort, and well‑being. The CNA is responsible for observing and reporting patient conditions, maintaining a clean environment, and promoting continuity and quality of care.
EssentialFunctions
- Assists patients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and daily living activities.
- Provides basic care such as changing linens, assisting with repositioning, and mobility support.
- Measures and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and reports changes to nursing staff.
- Documents patient care accurately and promptly, maintaining confidentiality.
- Supports nutrition by serving meals, assisting with feeding, and monitoring intake/output.
- Maintains safety by proper use of restraints, infection control, and fall prevention measures.
- Assists with basic treatments such as applying non‑sterile dressings, ice packs, and heat treatments as directed.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and teams.
- Participates in ongoing training to maintain CNA certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 1–3 years of CNA experience required.
- 3–6 years in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic nursing care techniques, patient hygiene, and infection control procedures.
- Strong communication skills working with patients, families, and teams.
- Ability to follow instructions, perform routine tasks, and document care accurately.
- Compassionate, patient‑focused, providing high‑quality care in a skilled nursing environment.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of employment.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) required.
