The Field Service Technician inspects, maintains, and repairs the trucks, trailers, aerial lifts, forklifts, pickups, and tree service equipment that keep our vegetation management crews working. This is a mobile role: you bring the shop to the equipment, handle preventive maintenance on schedule, and respond fast when something breaks down. You report directly to the Fleet Services Manager.
What you’ll do- Travel to job sites and yards to inspect, service, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, cooling, steering, and hydraulic systems.
- Work on aerial lifts, bucket trucks, chippers, tractors, and other tree service equipment from Altec, Terex, Freightliner, Cummins, and Allison.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy-duty diesel engines, pickups, trailers, and standard equipment.
- Use diagnostic tools and critical thinking to troubleshoot problems and find a solution in the field.
- Talk with crews and foremen, read work orders, and decide what's needed before you start.
- Prioritize repairs by urgency so the most critical equipment gets back to work first.
- Keep accurate service records in our fleet maintenance software.
- Track receipts and invoices for accurate, on‑time expense reporting.
- Coach field crews on preventive maintenance and daily equipment care.
- Respond to after‑hours, weekend, and holiday call‑outs when equipment goes down.
- Support storm response and other duties as assigned.
- Follow all established safety protocols and set up a safe work zone at every roadside or right‑of‑way repair.
- Lock out and tag out equipment, and safely support raised booms and hydraulic loads before working on them.
- Inspect aerial devices and safety‑critical systems so crews can trust the equipment they climb into.
- Meet DOT inspection and compliance requirements for the vehicles you service.
- Road‑ready. You like being on the move and don't mind a hotel night when the job calls for it.
- Cool under pressure. When a crew is down and everyone is waiting, you stay calm, focus, and get it fixed.
- A sharp troubleshooter. You trust your diagnostics and your instincts, and you find the root cause instead of guessing.
- Tough. Heat, cold, mud, and roadside repairs don't slow you down.
- Self‑managed. You plan your own day, prioritize the work, and follow through without being told.
- A clear communicator. You explain problems simply to crews, whether in English or Spanish, and keep your paperwork clean.
- Reliable. When the phone rings at night or on a weekend, the crews know you'll answer.
- Alwa…
