Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in Northern BC and Yukon. This position is available in our Prince George, Terrace, and Fort St. John offices. You will work closely with professionals, collaborate with industry experts, and manage projects across British Columbia and Yukon Territory.

What You Can Expect to Do Here
  • Work collaboratively with engineering staff on geotechnical consulting projects.
  • Share technical knowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative solutions.
  • Prepare geotechnical studies and engineering reports providing recommendations on various aspects of projects.
  • Provide expertise to support multi‑disciplinary projects such as highways, bridges, buildings, dams, industrial infrastructure, and tunneling.
  • Assist in developing and leading projects requiring geotechnical investigation programs, including preparing bidding documents, soliciting bids, evaluating subcontractor submissions, and supporting project engineers.
  • Assess and evaluate geotechnical issues such as settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, frost heave, excavation and back filling procedures, and related challenges.
  • Support field operations through managing field programs that may include boreholes, in‑situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, and construction work such as soil embankment construction, subgrade compaction assessment, and geosynthetic installation.
  • You may be required to perform other tasks as part of your role in the team.
What You’ll Bring to WSP
  • A bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical emphasis from an accredited university.
  • You are presently registered as a P.Eng. in Canada and eligible for registration with EGBC.
  • Some relevant experience gained as a P.Eng. in a Canadian province or territory.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience as a consultant Geotechnical Engineer, Gechanics Engineer, or related position.
  • Knowledge of standard geotechnical software such as Geo Studio (Slope/W, Seep/W, etc.), Rocscience, or other similar suites.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to be self‑directed.
  • A strong track record of managing and completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Ability to perform critical evaluation of outputs for geotechnical analyses.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license.
Compensation

Salary range (in British Columbia): $96,200 – $132,200 per year. A Northern Living Allowance will be added to the base salary. The final salary may vary based on education, qualifications, experience, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
