Public Safety Officer
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an opening in the Office of Public Safety for a Public Safety Officer.
Responsibilities- Provide escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed.
- Perform routine security and public safety patrol duties on campus.
- Remain alert to emergency situations and provide a first‑line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the Institute’s business needs.
- Associate degree in criminology or related field plus a minimum of five years’ experience in security, public safety, law enforcement, emergency services, or military experience.
- In lieu of a higher education degree, a high school diploma and seven or more years’ of experience in a public safety field.
- Higher‑level degrees in related fields may be considered in lieu of years of experience.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment screenings, including a background check, motor vehicle report, and physical ability assessment.
- Successfully conduct security patrols without direct supervision.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Complete routine paperwork.
- Understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- React calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
- Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
- Skill in performing building security and lock procedures.
- Knowledge of public security codes, policies, and regulations.
- Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus.

The Institute is located in Terre Haute, Indiana, within driving distance of seven major cities. The campus culture is student‑focused, welcoming, and inclusive.
Pay Range$18.50/hour – $22.50/hour. Pay is competitive and may be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
