HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals, one youth residential treatment facility, and thirteen state supported living centers. The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Administrator and Nurse Manager, the Nurse II observes, assesses, plans, intervenes, and evaluates outcomes, documenting all aspects of patient care. The Nurse II possesses a unique knowledge of the patient population to be served, may coordinate scheduling within assigned areas, and provides primary proactive management for the service area during the assigned shift with a supportive but clear supervisory manner.

The Nurse II supervises, counsels, and evaluates other nursing staff, collaborates with the Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to ensure 24‑hour continuity of care, and assumes duties of the Nurse Coordinator during absences. The Nurse II is flexible in work schedule, has broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment, and provides direct nursing care to individual patients as needed.

The duties, location of work, and shift/pattern are subject to change as determined by administration to meet the needs of the hospital. The role may include exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Performs other duties as assigned, which may include actively participating in or serving in a supporting role for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

This position may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, and/or weekends.

Essential Job Functions

Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
