Are you passionate about shaping the future of education in the Yukon? The Department of Education is dedicated to providing high-quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all Yukoners. We are committed to excellence, inclusivity, and innovation in every aspect of our work.
The department plays a crucial role in delivering a wide range of services and supports that span from early learning to adult education and encompass K-12 schooling. We are proud of the diverse team of professionals who collaborate to develop and implement policies, programs and initiatives that promote student success and enhance educational outcomes across the territory.
We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Khàtìnas.àxh Community School team. The KCS school is located on the Traditional Territory of Teslin Tlingit Council. The Inland Tlingit community of Teslin is located on the picturesque shores of Teslin Lake in the southern Yukon at historical Mile 804 on the Alaska Highway. Khàtìnas.àxh Community School serves 50 - 60 pre-kindergarten to grade 9 students and offers an alternative high school program in a rural setting.
Khàtìnas.àxh Community School is multicultural: the majority being citizens of the Teslin Tlingit Council First Nation (TTC). The school has close connections to the community, with First Nations ways of knowing and doing embedded in the school program and learning environment. We are moving towards a Land-based way of learning with an expectation for students to be learning on the land in place-based models as much as possible.
As KCS moves towards an inclusive Outdoor and Place Based Learning school we are ensuring strong ties to local First Nation values, traditions, and culturally relevant learning opportunities entwined into the Yukon Curriculum. We are looking for people with dynamic skills in classroom management, place-based learning, and the ability to work with local First Nation, community stakeholders, and parents/caregivers to provide a holistic approach to learning.
This position provides an opportunity for educators to work closely with community and Stakeholders to build close relationships to help grow a culturally responsive and student-centred approach to learning.
