NPI Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly / Metallic Components

Join our team at Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract in Brockworth. As part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) team, you will design, validate and support manufacturing systems for assembly and metallic components, ensuring robust production solutions for next‑generation sustainable aviation technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Hands‑on problem solving: work directly with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve technical issues using data‑driven approaches.
  • Design collaboration: influence design engineering to ensure manufacturability and assembly considerations are integrated throughout product development.
  • Process validation: conduct trials and manufacturing of development parts to validate assembly, metallic component, and related processes.
  • Process development: establish robust process parameters for new technologies and systems, guiding manufacturing applications and feasibility studies.
  • Virtual manufacturing tools: use simulation tools to model workflows, automation sequences, and space requirements, informing capacity plans.
  • Lean solutions: develop efficient equipment layouts, process designs, and product flows to maximize ROI and reduce unit costs.
  • Automation and technology: ensure process capability, cycle time, and equipment availability targets are met through automation and advanced technology integration.
  • Documentation and training: define equipment lists, spare requirements, training needs, work instructions, and safety documentation for production and maintenance teams.
  • APQP and FMEA: lead the rollout of Advanced Product Quality Planning and cascade critical characteristics into internal and supplier quality systems.
  • System commissioning: oversee installation and commissioning processes, driving continuous improvement and root‑cause analysis to meet SQDC targets.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or related project/program management experience.
  • Proven NPI experience in manufacturing, including project planning and execution.
  • Strong background in assembly and metallic component manufacturing, including facilities development, robotics, automation, and conveyor technologies.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and their application in manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize processes for throughput, quality, and availability during design and commissioning phases.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, RedX, and APQP requirements.
  • Experience defining FMEAs, cascading critical characteristics into control plans, and developing manufacturing quality operating systems.
  • Experience working with subcontracted suppliers and vendors.
  • Knowledge of H&S and CDM regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with high‑volume metallic manufacturing processes, including machining, forming, and assembly.
Desired Skills
  • Cad proficiency: experience with 3D Catia, 2D AutoCAD or other CAD packages.
  • Hydraulic systems hands‑on experience or knowledge.
  • Regulated industry experience: background in highly regulated industries (preferably aviation).
  • Advanced manufacturing tools: knowledge of 3D printing, rapid prototyping and virtual manufacturing simulation software.
  • Continuous improvement:
    Lean knowledge and passion for driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • GD&T expertise: ability to define and interpret GD&T requirements.
  • Data‑driven manufacturing: experience incorporating condition‑based monitoring and real‑time data acquisition into manufacturing environments.
