Typical Activities This is a technical leadership role where approximately 70% of your time is spent hands-on developing software, with the remaining 30% focused on online management and developing a high-performing engineering team. Working closely with the Head of Software, you'll remain active software engineers while providing leadership, coaching and technical direction across the engineering function.
This role is ideal for experienced software engineers who enjoy mentoring others but still want to spend the majority of their time designing, developing and reviewing high-quality software.
- Design, develop and maintain production-quality software as anactive member of engineering teams
- Write, review and optimise high-quality code, primarily inreal-time C
- Produce and reviewsoftware architecture,design documentation and technical proposals
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews and engineering governance activities
- Support engineers through technical mentoring, pairingand collaborative problem solving
- Own the quality, maintainability and delivery of software solutions
- Apply modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing and secure development
- Contribute to planning, estimation and technicaldecision making across multiple projects
- Drive consistency in engineering standards,tooling and development practices

- Significant commercial experience developing software inC within embeddedor low-level systems
- Experience working throughoutthe full software development lifecycle ina product development environment
- Strong understanding ofmodern software engineering practices including CI/CD, code reviewand automated testing
- Ability to interprethigh-level requirementsand translate theminto practical technical solutions
- Strong communication skills with the abilityto engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience producing and reviewing high-quality technical documentation
- Experience supporting career progression and mentoring engineers
- Ability to build, motivate and develop high-performing engineering teams
