Directs, coordinates, supports, and evaluates the on-the-job performance of Parent Educators to ensure parental knowledge of child development, health, safety, and readiness to learn. The position supervises the framework for Parents as Teachers (PAT) program services according to the PAT Foundational Curriculum, which includes personal visit plans and guided planning tools, resulting in individualized family services. Responsibilities include organizing discussions with families, implementing strategies to strengthen parent-educator-family relationships, and facilitating the PAT approach to working with families.
Provides and documents reflective supervision for Parent Educators. PAT serves eligible pregnant women and children from birth through kindergarten entrance and their families. A combination of education, work experience, and effective interpersonal and communication skills is essential for this role.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Social Work, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience working with families and young children is also preferred. The candidate must successfully complete Foundational and Model Implementation Training and Foundational II training according to PAT guidelines. A current valid driver's license in the state of residence, proof of automobile liability insurance, and an insurable driving record are required.
Experienceand Knowledge
Experience working with low-income families with infants, toddlers, and pregnant women is preferred. Candidates must obtain Parents as Teachers certification. They should be knowledgeable about the social, emotional, intellectual, and creative needs of young children. Experience working with parents and the general public, with the ability to relate to parents and understand their needs and requests, is essential. Spanish speaking ability is preferred.
Physical RequirementsMobility and the ability to bend and reach during an 8-hour day; capable of lifting a minimum of 10 lbs. These physical requirements are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to performing the job.
