RN, Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery - PRN

Overview:

The competent nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to handle long-range goals or plans. Develops the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as needed to help manage the clinical situation.

• Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) for assigned patients, in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
• Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families within the level of practice.
• Administer medications and treatments using the appropriate protocol; monitor for side-effects and effectiveness.
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assess learning needs and educate patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identify issues and resources.

Qualifications and

Experience:

  Skills:
  
  Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
• Experience: 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty is preferred.
• Licenses/Registrations/
  
  Certifications:
  
  BLS required; RN license in the state of employment or a compact license.
• Position Requirements: Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire. New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and must complete organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Services-specific competency validation. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
• Experience (preferred): Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal setting.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current certification from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM);
  Current NRP and ACLS certifications.

Credential and grace period information is provided per CHRISTUS Health policy and applies to required certifications within designated time frames.
