OverviewAs a member of the Marine HES&S team, the Personal Safety Professional will oversee and implement safety and health-related programs. The Person al Safety Professional will directly support boats and shoreside personnel in the Garyville and Texas City area, including locations in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Responsibilities- Serve as the SME for all safety programs for the coverage area, including being a cultural influencer with regards to Behavior Based Safety, leadership engagement and the Elite Safety Leader journey.
- Engage in vessel outage work by participating in the review and approval of Commissioning, Decommissioning, and Recommissioning Plans, Management of Change, Energy Isolation, and other safety support plans. Support Safety programs (Life Critical, Contractor Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Behavior-Based Safety, etc.) in the execution of field work.
- Provides direction and safety support and is accountable for ensuring safety programs and processes drive continuous safety performance improvement.
- Compiling organizational safety metrics, analyzing data, and identifying processes and programs to mitigate safety and health risks.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and MPC safety requirements and is accountable for providing quality guidance and support on all Health, Safety, and Security regulatory compliance matters.
- Respond to emergency response events and serve within the incident command structure (ICS) to provide air monitoring, development of health and safety plans, and other actions as needed. Other responsibilities/duties as assigned.
- Participate in monthly safety meetings and assist operations with continuously improving the quality and value of their safety meetings.
- Contributes to organizational and company health and safety strategy. Understands what tasks are occurring within the organization and is routinely present in planning, field monitoring, auditing critical safety procedures (hot work, confined space, excavation, energy control, etc.), and providing immediate feedback to employees and management.
- Implements safety and health programs for the organization and designs safety strategies focused on incident prevention and risk reduction.
- Provides leadership and guidance on all safety and health programs for the organization and ensures that these programs are properly overseen and managed (e.g., life-critical programs, safety leadership, hazard recognition, contractor safety management, and occupational injury and illness reporting and management).
- Assists in incident investigations and implements organizational corrective actions.
- Acts as a liaison to the Coast Guard.
- High school diploma or GED required with 5+ towboat experience, as either a Deckhand, Mate, or Engineer, or a Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver.
- Ability to identify risk and implement mitigations based on knowledge of the business.
- Capable of managing conflict in the work environment.
- Focuses on developing business acumen and technical knowledge.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Strong Marine, Oil & Gas Operations, and/or safety background preferred.
- Current or past Tankmen’s License.
- Current or past Wheelmen's License.
