Candidates must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check, before being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position. SUMMARYUnder general supervision, the Engineer plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates engineering projects of moderate to large scope, providing advanced engineering and project management expertise, serving as a staff advisor and consultant, and representing the company’s interests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides engineering expertise necessary to support intermediate and large engineering projects.
- Conducts or participates in performance, cost, and scheduling studies of varying size and complexity, applying advanced and innovative techniques.
- Applies routine and advanced engineering techniques, practices, and procedures to support operational areas.
- Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations effectively to engineering and non‑engineering individuals and groups, including diverse internal and external audiences.
- Represents the Company in engineering matters and serves as a lead for staff engineers, professionals, and technicians, providing training as needed.
- Interacts with and provides technical support to other associates, and collaborates in the formulation and improvement of Company and industry standards.
- Provides advanced technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and Company personnel on an as‑needed basis.
- Identifies and resolves broad technical and organizational issues affecting company goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply standard engineering principles, practices, regulations, and economic and decision analysis in areas such as generation, transmission, distribution, system planning, finance, regulation, and environmental controls.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.).
- Demonstrated leadership, self‑motivation, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility applications for improving system reliability.
- Comfortable working in and around high voltage (up to 345 kV) electrical facilities and equipment.
- Ability to forecast budgets and make informed repair decisions following company protocols.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution plus 2 or more years of engineering experience; 1+ years with a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate; or 1+ years plus a Master’s Degree in Engineering. - Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Engineering and/or Professional Engineer license in New Mexico. - Preferred:
Fundamentals of Engineering certificate. - Must possess a current, legally valid driver’s license and meet the Company’s driving record requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, speeches, and presentations.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and managers.
- In‑depth knowledge of personal computers with proficiency in electrical engineering design programs, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and Windows.
- Proficiency in word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to apply common sense and carry out complex instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to address complex problems involving multiple variables in complicated situations.
