Job Description
Under the supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and assisting with various accounting processes to ensure compliance and support informed decision-making. This role requires a solid understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them in a dynamic environment.

Typing speed of 45 wpm, operation of ten key adding machine/calculator. Proficiency in operating personal computers and knowledge of general clerical duties. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Hands-on experience with audits and cost reports. Proven experience working independently and proactively in an accounting role. Experience with accounting software. Excellent analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills.

Experience: At least three years of progressive accounting experience. - Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper GL coding.
- Reconcile various financial statements to identify and resolve discrepancies or variances.
- Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records using journals, monthly.
- Compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
- Calculate costs of materials, overhead, and other expenses, based on estimates, quotations and price lists in order to analyze financial data and provide insights into variances, trends, and financial performance.
- Assist the Controller and CFO in compiling statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
- Participate in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Provide support to the Controller and CFO with audit and cost reports.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and to provide accounting support.
- Payroll processing to include data entry and verification.
- Compute deductions for income and social security taxes, submits tax forms and returns, workers' compensation forms, pension contribution forms, and other government documents.
- Perform general office duties, such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
- Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
- Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Hospital District.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.

- Duties of the position require extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
